Why this Residency Matters
This July, I have been invited to attend a three-week artist residency in France at Château d’Orquevaux.
This residency matters because it gives me the focused time, distance, and quiet needed to complete The Art of Becoming, a true immersive memoir I began nearly ten years ago. The book traces memory, grief, faith, survival, public art, womanhood, place, and the long process of becoming unstuck.
In many ways, even this invitation is part of the book’s making. I am practicing the very thing the work asks of me: to stop disappearing inside shame, to ask for support, and to allow this next chapter to be witnessed.
